Follow Gandhi: PM to IAS Probs

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon the new young IAS officers joining the Government service to always bear in mind Mahatma Gandhi’s dictum of welfare of the poorest of the poor. Modi was speaking to a group of 181 IAS probationers of 2015 batch who called on him here today and interacted with him at the Parliament House Library. Also present on the occasion were Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha, Union Secretary DoPT Sanjay Kothari and Director Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie Rajiv Kapoor.
Prime Minister’s advice to the young probationers was that whenever they have to take a decision, they must recall Mahatma Gandhi’s talisman of keeping in mind the welfare of the poorest of the poor.
Noting that several of the probationers had worked in the private sector before joining the IAS, PM said that while their earlier assignments were “jobs”, they are now going to undertake “service.”
Stressing the importance of progress and connectivity in the North-East, the Prime Minister said, if North-East developed, the entire country would march forward.
In response to a question, Narendra Modi said, his extensive travels across India for over four decades, and his experience as Chief Minister of a State, had helped him in his work as Prime Minister.
Modi reminded the young officers that this was a great opportunity for them to serve the country from a position from where they could make a difference in the lives of millions of people of this country and change their destiny.
Wishing them a good luck in their career, the PM called upon the young officers to work with dedication and diligence.
