Educational institutions celebrate birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri

JAMMU: Various educational institutions celebrated Gandhi Jayanti–the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri. The day is also popularly known as ‘International Day of Non-Violence and Peace’. In connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, GDC Thannamandi organized a symposium on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Era”. The programme was presided over by College Principal Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina and the chief guest on the occasion was Bashir Ahmed Shawl, District President, Gandhi Global Family. In the symposium 11 students participated. Flower Afsana Chand bagged the first prize whereas Mohsin Ul-Elem and Rifta Parveen secured second and third positions respectively. Dr Naim-un-Nisa, Lecturer Ashfaq Ahmed and Waqar Ahmed were judges of the symposium. GDC Akhnoor celebrated International Day of Non-Violence and Peace, under the chairmanship of Prof Surinder Singh Parihar, Senior faculty member the college. On the occasion, floral tributes were paid to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, Symposium and poster making competitions on the theme ‘Non-Violence’ were organized. Anju Sharma, Surbi and Gulbeer bagged top three positions respectively in symposium, while Neha Rani, Rashmi Singh and Urmila Devi bagged first, second and third prizes respectively in poster making. Rich tributes were paid to Father of Nation at Government College of Education, Canal Road. A debate completion on the theme “Swach Bharat-A Mission” was organized. The function was presided over by College Principal Dr Kaushal Smotra. Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar under the guidance of Managing Director Gambhir Dev Singh Charak. Principal Davinder Kour and children of pre-primary classes recited beautiful poems and showed their patriotism and love for country. On the occasion, a cleanliness drive was also organized in and outside the institution.
The student and staff of Shri Mahavir Jain Higher Secondary School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. Principal Suresh Gupta emphasized need of imbibing patriotic spirit among the students and exhorted for eradication of social evils and illiteracy from the society. The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated in the Primary Wing of Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School. Chairperson of the school Lalita Katal presided over the event. The students imitated the famous dialogues of freedom fighters and also recited poems on Mahatma Gandhi. Later, a play was also presented, in which students efficiently portrayed all the major incidents of the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The whole proceedings of the event were carried out by Priyanka Kanwar. A function was organised in GHSS Pouni to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. Principal MM Khajuria, staff and students paid tributes to the great leader. NCC cadets of the school under the guidance of NCC Officer Sunil Sharma conducted swachita abhiyan in and around the school. Rich tributes were also paid to late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, Jammu Sanskriti School organized a special assembly which started with rich tributes to Father of the Nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Toddlers presented Ganesh Vandana which was followed by thoughts on Non-Violence by Komal Charak. Shallu Verma highlighted the life history of Mahatma Gandhiji and his message to the students. Seema told the children about the contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri in building the nation and slogan given by him “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”. Pre-Primary students presented a patriotic song. Principal-cum-Vice Chairpe-rson Rohini Aima was also present on the occasion.
Spring Blossom’s Public School, Lakkar Mandi, Janipur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great zeal and fervour. Children participated in debate competition and patriotic group songs. The students spoke on the life of Mahatama Gandhi and his struggle for freedom with other leaders against the British rule. Principal Divya also threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Stepping Stone School, Bari Brahmana celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a special assembly. Students presented beautiful cultural items. Principal of the school Anjali Sharma threw light on the importance of the day.
Lord Mahavira Playway School, Shiv nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri. On the occasion, the chief guest was Principal of the school Madhu Sharma, while President and Founder, Nat Manch Tarun Sharma was the guest of honour. Children performed various programmes on the occasion. In the end, awards were presented to winners.
JK Montessorie British School and its affiliated unit JK Little Millennium International School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, students were dressed as Mahatma Gandhi and “Baa Kasturba”. Managing Director Sanjeev Gupta, Director Academics Rajni Gupta, Vice Principal Geeta Dixit and Co-ordinator Vandana Gupta were also present on the occasion.
KIDZEE celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at its Anand Nagar Bohri, Gandhi Nagar, Channi Himmat and Talab Tillo branches. The function started with the special assembly in which the facilitators gave demonstration regarding the occasion. The kids of play group nursery, junior and senior were dressed up in Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi costumes.
The Nature’s Lap International School, Pouni celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by conducting a special assembly. On the occasion, students sang patriotic songs. Principal Meenakshi Sharma stressed upon the cleanliness drive.
ITS Computers and Tutorial, Nai Basti celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The programme started with patriotic song competition between the four groups as divided by the teachers. Students expressed their views on the slogans given to them. First position was won by Lotus Team, second position by Tiger House and third position by Peacock Team. The competition was adjudged by Vikash Kumar Sharma, Director of the institute.
Sangarsh held a one day convention on the topic “Peace for Humanity”, in connection with the celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti programme at Conference Hall, Dak Bunglow, Rajouri, where students from colleges and schools participated. MOS and VC Pahari Advisory Board Kuldeep Raj Gupta was the chief guest, while Principal PG Government College, Rajouri Prof Shabir Shah presided over the function. Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Prof Shabir Shah, Nisar Rahi, Azam Shah, Vishal Pahari and Sehar Salim expressed their views. Vikrant Sharma, Member Central Executive conducted the programme. Earlier Advocate Israr Mirza District Observer Sangarsh presented the welcome address.
