Run-for-Health: Mehbooba underscores importance of walk

CM-25-2SRINAGAR: In a bid to bridge the gap with Kashmir’s young, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti launched ‘Run-for-Health’ from her highly fortified Gupkar residence in Srinagar to famous Shankaracharya Hills, where she could be seen clicking selfies with the kids. After reaching the Shankaracharya, Mehbooba Mufti told participants that every school should do such kind of activities on every Saturday.
“Every day I do walk for almost an hour but this walk was one of the best walks of my life. I feel enthusiastic, energetic when I see such passion among kids who participate in such activities,” Mehbooba told participants.
“Sports and physical activities are as much important for students as the studies itself,” she said and hoped the campaign would be carried forward with students from different schools participating every week.
Mehbooba Mufti, who is the Chairperson of the State Sports Council, said her government has flagged sports development as a top priority and the budgetary support for the same has been enhanced considerably.
She said so far 200 coaches have been made available to train youth in various sports disciplines.
Besides, critical infrastructure in terms of playing fields, indoor stadia, equipment etc. is also being made available to youth, she added.
While walking, several participants requested the Chief Minister for selfies and lot of kids clicked these with her. “On this occasion, I felt very much joyous that I got the chance to take a selfie with our Chief Minister. It will remain a memorable picture for me as before this event I had only seen leaders on media or social networking sites,” said one participant, Sumaira Jan. “These are healthy events which motivate others. These events should be regular feature,” said another participant, Umer Ahmed.
The campaign has been launched by the J and K State Sports Council in which students from various schools, young boys and girls besides people from all walks of life participated.
MLA, Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir; Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Waheed ur Rehman Parra; Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed and other officers were also present.
